1. Two-Ingredient Natural Makeup Remover

Recipe from Live Simply

Must-Have Materials: Witch hazel, a liquid oil of your choice (like olive or jojoba), small jar

Time To Make: 5 minutes

Mess Meter: 1/5

Makeup remover is one of the things you never remember to buy until you’re already out. With this ultra-simple DIY recipe, you’ll never run out again. Witch hazel is a natural skin cleanser. When combined with a nourishing oil, it gently removes makeup without irritating your skin. Just be careful around your eyes!

Make this recipe by pouring 3 Tbsp of witch hazel and 2 Tbsp liquid oil in a small jar. You can use jojoba, almond, olive, or any other oil you like. Shake to combine—and that’s it. To use, apply a small amount to a makeup remover pad or swab and cleanse as desired.

2. Homemade Nourishing Lotion

Recipe from Wellness Mama

Must-Have Materials: Almond or jojoba oil, coconut oil, beeswax

Optional Materials: Vitamin E oil, Shea butter, vanilla extract, essential oils

Time To Make: 20 minutes

Mess Meter: 4/5

This lotion is made without water, so you don’t have to worry about emulsifying. A few simple ingredients combine to leave your skin soft and smooth. And even better, you can customize the scent however you like.

Start by preparing a double boiler. If you don’t have one, place a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water. Add in the following core ingredients:

  • ½ cup almond, jojoba, or other liquid oil
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup beeswax
  • 2 Tbsp shea or cocoa butter (optional)

Stir until melted and smooth. Then mix in 1 tsp of Vitamin E oil and essential oils, if you’re using them. Store in a small container—this lotion works better in a jar than a pump. Then massage into your skin for a healthy glow.

3. Natural Lotion Bar

Recipe from Wellness Mama

Must-Have Materials: Coconut oil, beeswax, shea or cocoa butter

Optional Materials: Essential oils, Vitamin E oil, soap molds

Time To Make: 10 minutes

Mess Meter: 3/5

Lotion bars are simple to make, portable, and great for your skin. You can use soap bars for everything from moisturizing her hands to treating diaper rash.

To begin, prepare a double boiler, a glass bowl over simmering water, or a quart-sized mason jar set in a saucepan. This last method is extra low-maintenance since you can designate a mason jar and skip the extra dishwashing.

Combine 1 cup each of coconut oil, shea or cocoa butter, and beeswax. Stir until completely melted, then remove from heat and mix in essential oils and 1 tsp of Vitamin E oil if desired.

Pour into molds or a square baking pan and allow the lotion to cool completely. Remove from the molds or pan and cut into squares. These bars are perfect for using around the house, on the go, or giving as gifts!

4. DIY Calming Lavender Bath Salts

Recipe from Wholefully

Must-Have Materials: Epsom salt, coarse or medium Himalyan sea salt, lavender essential oil

Optional Materials: Dried lavender flowers

Time To Make: 15 minutes

Mess Meter: 1/5

When life gets overwhelming, a warm bath can be just the thing to help you destress. Adding in natural salts and oils makes it even more beneficial! While you soak, your body absorbs these elements through your pores. So you get soothed muscles, aromatherapy, and an enhanced sense of calm!

These bath salts come together in one large bowl. Add in 4 cups Epsom salts and 2 cups coarse or medium Himalayan sea salt and toss to combine. Then sprinkle about 60 drops of lavender essential oil over the salts and mix again.

You can also add in ½ cup of dried, crushed lavender flowers. As a note, you’ll need to rinse the flowers off yourself and your tub when you’re finished soaking, so leave them out if you don’t want the extra step.

Once your ingredients are well-mixed, divide the mixture into jars to store or give away! To use your salts, dissolve 1 cup of bath salts into a warm bath. Then soak and relax for at least 20 minutes and feel your stress melt away.
