If you don't want to buy more gifts, you can easily take the thoughtful route 😊
Here's a guide on how to make something special for your loved ones.
The best thing about these personalized gifts is they make everyone feel cherished.
Firstly let's get into edibles
1. Preserved Lemons
Preserved lemons make a gorgeous edible gift when packed into mason jars.
Keep (unopened) in a cool cupboard for up to a year; and if opened keep for months...
Although your giftees will most likely use them well before then!
ALL YOU NEED
- 3 lemons (washed in hot water)
- 1/2 cup kosher salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Optional spices: 1/2 tsp coriander seeds, 1/2 tsp allspice berries, 1/2 tsp black peppercorns
DIRECTIONS
- Slice the lemons into rings each about 0.5cm/1/4″ wide and start layering them in your jar. Add in the salt here and there and also the spices as you go.
- Just keep layering up those lemons and adding in the other ingredients as you go. Finish off with a layer of salt on the top.
- Pop on the lid and give it a good shake.
- Set aside for 4 – 7 days and shake it every day.

2. Homemade Caramel Sauce
Homemade Caramel Sauce makes a sweet gift!
Make a few batches and divide them between some cute jars. Pop a bow on and you’re done.
Gift this to anyone you want to spread some cheer to.
This caramel is also gluten-free, which makes it a prime gift for anyone with dietary restrictions.
ALL YOU NEED
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tbsp salted butter, cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp heavy cream
- Pinch of sea salt
- 1 empty mason jar
DIRECTIONS
- Get all your ingredients ready before you begin.
- Add the sugar to a medium saucepan on medium heat, and stir constantly to avoid burning.
- Make sure all the little chunks of sugar are gone! If the sugar isn't completely liquified, the caramel sauce won't turn out.
- Once the sugar has completely melted, immediately add the butter and reduce the heat slightly. Stir constantly until the butter is completely melted.
- Remove from the heat and slowly add the heavy cream, whisking as you add it. The caramel will bubble up here.
- Set the pot back on the heat for about a minute more, stirring constantly, to let it thicken up a bit. Remove from the heat, and let cool a bit. Add a pinch of salt.
- Pour into an empty jar & leave to cool. Keep it in the fridge and it will keep for about 2 weeks. When using it out of the fridge, microwave it for 10-20 seconds to soften it back up.

Nuts are a perfect recipe for those who don't have a sweet tooth.
